Mother refuses cancer treatment to save her daughter (9 Photos)

This is the story of Stacie Crimm, a brave woman from Oklahoma who made the ultimate sacrifice to save her unborn daughter.

The 41 year-old mother-to-be began having severe headaches a few months after she found out she was pregnant. A CT scan would reveal Stacie had head and neck cancer. Stacie was faced with the toughest choice of her life, undergo potentially life-saving chemotherapy and hope the baby wouldn't be affected by the invasive treatment, or forgo treatment to let the child grow without the brutal chemo assault, a choice that would end in Stacie's own death.

According to Stacie's brother, Ray, "It didn't take long for (Stacie) to make her decision." She decided against the chemo. A couple months later Stacie collapsed in her home and was rushed to the hospital. The invasive tumor had wrapped itself around Stacie's brain stem. She didn't have long and the baby's heart rate was dropping as well.

Doctors decided to deliver the 2 pound, 1 ounce Dottie May by cesarean section. After the birth, Stacie fell unconscious and was unable to even sign her daughter's birth certificate. Custody of Dottie was given to Stacie's brother, Ray. Doctors feared Stacie would not regain consciousness but on September 8th, Stacie woke up just long enough to hold her daughter one last time.

Three days later, Stacie passed away. What an unbelievably brave woman. Last week, Stacie's brother brought a healthy 5 lb. Dottie home to live with his wife and Dottie's four brand new siblings.

    Good Mama!

    • Jak

Fuck cancer! That's what I say. Ah crap, my eyes are leaking. RIP

      • Mr. H

and fuck you chive for making me cry….

    • Guesty

Fuck that she should've aborted the baby, gotten better and tried again. Stupid bitch now you're dead and the child has no mother.

      • Mr. H

        hope you rot in hell…

      • TheQueeeen

You're an idiot. Your mother should have aborted you.

      • scharfy

        It's called "choice".

      • A BiPolar Guy

There are worse things than dying. The child has a mother and a father. Mothers don't have to be birth mothers. I've got adopted kids. My daughter's birth mother decided her child by rape should live even though she could not care for her.
There is no way to know if this lady would have recovered. These things are far from 100%
She made her choice as a mother to save her child. Not everyone thinks abortion is ok.

      • 2drunk2frag

I agree with Guesty. I think what she did was basically suicide and it was the cowardly way out (She was afraid of the physical pain involved in fighting the cancer and the mental pain dealing with the abortion). Instead of improving society, she just made it harder for everyone. She left a child in the world with only one parent when she could have fought the cancer and tried again or adopted a child. Unborn children are not more important than a 40 year old person. Hopefully her child will become a better person than she was.

        • TheQueeeen

There's a difference between killing yourself and sacrificing yourself for someone you love. Yes, it IS possible to love a baby that isn't born yet. And the baby wasn't left with one parent, she was left with her uncle and aunt who already have kids of their own. And how the fuck do YOU know that the dead mother was afraid of the physical/mental pain? Unless it came from her mouth directly, you sir, have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. And PS – it's not up to you to decide if an unborn baby or a 40 year old is more important than the other.

          • 2drunk2frag

Counter to the popular happy fuzzy opinion of the masses, I'm just stating that this woman is not a hero. I think that her choice must have been made for selfish reasons. If can think past the idea that children are the most precious thing what she did was for her comfort not that of her unborn child.

            • wade

And I think you are a total fucking idiot. I applaud your ability to enter this dead woman's brain and determine why she made this choice. She should have chemoed her unbord baby?! What a fucking douche you are.

            • somos

Just because you're a fucking DIY egomaniac does not mean that everybody is. Short minded. 2drunk2think and probably 2drunk2live.

            • The Queeeen

I get it now. You're that idiot who just tries to go against the masses to be 'different'. "Oh, this baseball team won and everyone is happy about it? Well I hate them, they suck and anyone who disagrees can fuck themselves!"

      • Ladyfriend

If I could have voted thumbs down a 100 times I would have. My guess you have no children and 2 you are not a woman. Cause then you'd realize what its like to carry a child. Most parents would easily die for their children. Until then shut the fuck up and comment on things that you might actually know a little about…which I'm going to guess isn't much. @ 2drunk- hopefully she will become a better person than you are!

    • CBRian1K

      Man tears . No shame.

Easy choice to make for your child, very hard one to follow through with.

  • TheBear

There is a special place in heaven for people like that

  • NebraskaGuy

Stacie is a hero in the truest sense of the word. No greater love can a mother have for her child than to give up her own life so her little one can live.

Rest in peace, Stacie … you earned it!

  • jaw

No one gives a shit if u saw a story somewere else! Its a good story and who cares who posted it first! Chive doesnt claim to be a “breaking story” site! Jesus christ that gets on my fuc*ing nerves! If you have heard the story then theres no reason to click on it and leave a stupid comment!

    • MammyNun3

i saw this reply on another website.

      • Mike

I completely agree with Jaw in that if you have seen the story on another site, don't click the link here just to write a stupid comment about how you already read the story before it was mainstream. With that said you sir made me laugh so hard that I almost would call it LOL…almost.

        • The_Dood

I would call mine an audible chuckle.
