    • http://hermesdfo.blogspot.com Hermes

If theChive had user accounts, I'm betting most of them would belong to students 😀

    • Jake

      me too o.O

  • TomatoTipper

Not sure what he was getting at but It was heartwarming and the video with all the colors kept me entertained.

    • Dylan

What he is getting at is that at the advent of this universe there was only Hydrogen. All of this Hydrogen gas formed stars, which in turn formed all (naturally occurring) elements more massive than Hydrogen. All of these elements were then released into the universe via supernovae. This includes Oxygen and Carbon, the two predominant elements in humans.

In short, we are all stardust.

      • sadman

The Torah has been teaching this for thousands of years:
"…you are dust, and to dust you will return."
        -Genesis 3:19

        • drewleathers

I don't think that's quite what they were getting at.

          • fin the human

actually it pretty much summed up that video. just because the post had something to do with religion doesn't mean you should swat it down. stop taking religion so seriously and just help you be better a person. its a shame religion is no longer cool. if we just look at bibles as pieces of literature, then you can actually learn something from them.

            • MatticusDav

yea but thats racist in todays world..

            • Rafiki

I agree, you can learn a lot. However, while some details are still relevant, other details are not. Education is what needs to coincide with religious study, the two should go hand in hand in order for an individual to get the most out of the text.

            • brent

In this context, dust, in absolutely no shape or form equals atoms. Religious nuts have been trying to pull this crap for generations. You try and alter science to fit your scriptures. It doesn't work that way.

        • Rafiki

so the obviousness of the Torah convinces people to follow it?

    • luke

Death Star at 2.22 – don't want to be formed from the guts of that star.

      • Ouch!

    • David

Only problem I have with Neil is that he got the ball rolling on demoting Pluto. Bastard.

Watch this instead of watching the TREE OF LIFE… three minute piece that has better message and right to the point…..

  • KCJake

It's like that saying: Forget Jesus, the stars died so you could live.

    Or something like that.

    • sadman

U mad bro? Sorry that some Christian in your life failed you. The bio-genesis animation suggesting raw elements randomly combined to form simple-reproducing-living cells takes a leap of faith orders of magnitude greater than anything Jesus asked.

      • JethroD

It doesn't take a leap of faith at all. It just takes knowledge of basic chemistry.

      • brent

I'm an atheist, no christian in my life has ever failed me (well, not enough to alter my belief system). Christianity (any religion for that matter) has failed to give me any reason to believe its myth. That leap of faith you think we should take, its faith in numbers, chemistry, physics, overall science. I've studied your religion, and made my decision.

        • Most Interesting

I don't always argue with an atheist, but when I do, I realize they know way more about the Bible then I do.

    • ???

If the stars died so we can exist and Jesus died so we could live, Does that mean Jesus Christ is a Superstar?

      • Swaff

lmao i think he went supernova for our sins

  • vonBiz

Any hear him on Ron and Fez this morning? *R&F 11-3*

    • PookiesGhost

      • BostonChiver.

Couple things…I didn't go to Harvard or MIT, so why represent them in my user name? I live in Boston, love boston and love the sox. Why do you have to troll my comment and get all negative? Relax, KCCO.

        • Khaaaan

          Well said fellow Boston Chiver….KCCO

    • Harg Marglin

You may not be a special batch of atoms, but you are the result of millions of different sperm, each one a winner.

  • Thanks Chive

    I must be broken

    • sorry 'bout yer luck

me too. Nothing that hasn't been said before, by person(s) more eloquent and relevant.
I guess just rewrite the words, slap some new video clips on it- you now, just enough not to plagiarize, and sell it to the youngsters who haven't heard it before.

      • life

that is what you just did by rewriting what "Thanks Chive" said. and that is okay. It is up to all of us to find a way to make every bit of knowledge relate to our children, else what is the point of living?

      • learning is neat.

I don't think you know what plagiarizing is, otherwise you are saying that every educator is plagiarizing everything they teach in primary and secondary school.

        • no plagarizing here

"you know, just enough NOT to plagiarize,"
I understand what "sorry 'bout yer luck" was saying. I think the difference is: that person wanted to paint what NDT said in a boring-i've-seen-this-all-before-can-we-get-something-more-profound light, while I was saying we all stand (and generally recognize we stand) on the shoulders of giants. ~paraphrase by John of Salisbury 1159.

          • Irony

I see what you did here.

      • Brent

Maybe I can put the track in context. This is a recording of him being interviewed by a magazine, he was asked a question, he answered it with his opinion. He was absolutely not trying to pass it off like it was his discovery, or the description of what happened were all his own words. You can't describe any event without doing it similarly to someone who has described it before you. If you describe it differently, your not describing it accurately.

    • Guest

Haters gonna hate. I mus be broken too. No worries.

    • meeeeee

Probably, but youre just dumb and cant comprehend.
