LGM-118A Peacekeeper missile system being tested at the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. This is a long exposure photo showing the paths of the multiple re-entry vehicles deployed by the missile. One Peacekeeper can hold up to 10 nuclear warheads, each independently targeted. Were the warheads armed with a nuclear payload, each would carry with it the explosive power of twenty-five Hiroshima-sized weapons. (Wiki)

      • Andy

Well thank you Captain Obvious! Seriously though, thanks for the insight – I thought it was shopped!

      • Lee

Spent 3 years on Kwaj. Always thought WWIII would be short but obviously pretty.

        • https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1594663751 Nick Chamberlain

I spent 12 years growing up out there on Kwaj. Nice to see it make the Chive – now all we need are some sunset pics also.

    • Frank Xander

Actually, it's one of the most devastating missiles we have today. It's 20x more powerful than the Atomic bomb we dropped on Hiroshima. Called the Peace Keeper Missiles.

        • .....

god no…that place is a hole!

      • Erik

….not to mention liking your own Chive post

I thought it was the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències in Valencia, but it turns out they were just made by the same architect and look really similar.

  • LucretiusCarus

#20 That must be hard to look out on a really sunny day.

    • Miltowndave

This looks like the disney concert hall (probably actually some other building designed by frank gehry). The reflections of light off that heated some of the surrounding sidewalk to over 140 degrees F.

      • If you say so...

which caused many problems and law suits and the finish on the metal had to be roughed up to lower the glare. A similar thing happened with an entire side of a hotel or apartment was being owned via reflection from next door.

      • Bryan

It's actually the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain and you are right it was by Gehry. When I was then in June it didn't heat up or glare really at all. It's sand blasted to take away that shiny quality.

  • Blame_anxiety

      • Some_Guy

lol the only person with an intelligent answer. My guess is that the original image's colors were inverted.

        • tapsnapornap

Texas tea was a good guess too if you didn't think the colours were inverted.

#1 Marriott Times Square, i was there 4 weeks ago, that place is amazing

    • Todd W

Stayed there, too. The 'decorative' bars along the walkway are to prevent jumpers. Suicide there some years back.

  • Underbaker

#20 has now replaced the Lego Zombies, needed something to think about.

  • Chris

#20 Gehry, disgusting! His work is a load of crap. Before Frank Gehry "designed" Bilbao he was know for his parking garages. Don't let the curves fool you.
    Sincerely,
    Architecture Student

    • TheAndy

      Dear Architecture student –

You're always allowed to have your own opinions, I might just suggest that you support them. This will come in handy when you present your very own parking garages to your professors.

And you need to get a grip on how this profession works there, kiddo. Since that was built in 1997, Gehry has become arguably the world's most recognized living architect and gets to pick and choose his commissions while most smaller firms struggle at a time like this. We all have to start somewhere., and Gehry has reached the top of the architectural mountain, so to speak.

Don't be jealous, just work hard like the rest of us do, and maybe someday you can gain enough architectural vocabulary to actually pose an argument more ideologically sound than "disgusting."

      Sincerely,
      Architectural Designer

  • chicago

#19 was inspired by XP Sp1 Paint when grabbing the window and shaking your mouse… load delay.

  • weaksauce

of course had those nukes been armed this photo would look far more intimidating. Scary to think we (humans) can drop such firepower from a single missile.

  • Jack Spectre

That is a long exposure shot of MIRV reentry vehicles. Up to ten nuclear warheads per missile, each one can strike a separate target.

    • moose

Why the down votes? He's right
