We’ve all had our gruesome run-ins with dentists that cause more than a little apprehension to get our teeth fixed up on an annual basis. They casually ask you how your day is going, luring you into a false sense of security, only to cut you off mid-sentence as they go 9 rounds with your gum line. But it turns out that not all dentists share the maniacal thirst for pain like Steve Martin’s character from ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.
In fact, in the case of Dr. Thomas Campagna, he knows that sometimes people need help just getting into the chair in the first place. As Campagna’s father was a Marine, he always preached that the Military had to look after their own. Discussing his father’s role in helping others, “When he passed away, I noticed the Military likes to take care of their own. It takes free work through charities to pick up where the government can’t,” he said.
And so, Campagna who volunteers for Rebuilding American Warriors (RAW), a nonprofit that helps find free reconstructive surgery for US service men and women, has opted to provide free dental work for all veterans in his local area. That’s right, no strings attached, just a man who wants to help out those who’ve already given so much for our nation.
Army Veteran Matthew Allgood, described Caldwell Dental Dentist’s generosity as a “game changer.”
“He told me he was going to give me implants the best he could, no matter the time or cost… There’s no comparison. I don’t have severe toothaches anymore. Pretty soon, all my implants will be in and I will have my smile back.” ” Allwood said in an interview with MRT.
One of the issues that commonly happens to soldiers who’ve toured abroad is that they face radical tooth decay that is not only unhealthy, but often embarrassing.
RAW President Maggie Lockridge discussed this sense of shame many soldiers share, “Some just stay home. They’re embarrassed because of their mouths, so they grow a beard to draw attention away. They won’t smile. Their teeth break off, and it’s so painful.”
I can’t say enough about the honorable and giving nature of Dr. Thomas Campagna. In a world that’s often unfair, and almost always uncertain, it takes bold men performing grand gestures to provide the example for others to follow in order to make the world a better place. Imagine if even one percent of the world was so brazen, how much better off we’d all be.
