Army SF troops battling in ‘Nam were recruited to be dropped behind enemy-lines and raid targets with the goal of disrupting the advance of the Soviet Army’s movements.
Recruit Dan Dawson explained the weight of delivering the bomb:
“To get him (the SADM backpack) across an open area in a hurry;
two of us, one on each side, had to support him under our arms and trot with him across this open area. You could carry it, but you couldn’t run with it.”
