At the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, located in Hyde Park, NY there is an interesting exhibit called “Day of Infamy: 24 Hours that Changed History”.
The exhibit takes visitors through each hour from the moment FDR learned of the attack to his speech to declaring war. Included is the first draft of his speech to the nation with hand-written edits from President Roosevelt.
As you can see in the first draft document,
FDR crossed-out the opening lines which actually read:
“a date which will live in world history” to add one memorable word “infamy”.
