A woman named Kate, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 17, has found her own version of therapy by turning her hallucinations into awesome illustrations. Kate says she often hallucinates insects, which is apparent in her work. She adds that her disease makes her feel worthless, like a fly, so the art is not only a reflection of what she sees, but how she feels.
Kate hopes her art helps to end the stereotype of people struggling with schizophrenia.
“As soon as I tell people what I struggle with, I feel like that’s all they see me as. They see the stigma perpetuated by the media, and the inaccurate stereotypes portrayed in Hollywood. That is precisely why I am so open about what I live with.
