No matter which side of the argument you stand on, the legalization of marijuana is gaining serious traction. It started out as a medicinal miracle drug of sorts and on that strong foundation, it’s also begun to see wide spread legalization for recreational use. Though the future of the drug seems strong, the relationship of its users to the general public has remained a mixed bag. As legalization spreads, more cities are popping up across the country that not only offer safe harbor to our munchy reliant friends, they’re also pretty bad ass. Washington, D.C.
You’re in good company when you blaze in the Nation’s Capital. Founding fathers George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are both known for cultivating their own hemp. Who knows there they would stand in the legalization of weed, but they lend a strong voice to the cause. If you’re one to wax nostalgic and check out the local museums when you’re under the influence, this is your location.
Seattle, Washington
To no one’s surprise, Seattle makes this list and is a strong contender for the best city in America to sit on your couch and do nothing while high. Good sports teams with a strong fan base add to gorgeous scenery and amazing fresh seafood to make sure you forget some amazing adventures. Talk about laid back, Seattle residents can carry up to 16 ounces of their favorite sticky infused edibles or 72 ounces of infused liquid so EVERYONE knows you vape, bro.
Portland, Oregon
If you’re looking for a liberal take on weed restriction, Oregon is about as laid back as it gets. You also get gorgeous scenery without the unruly population sizes. Perhaps even better, Portland is like the city that keeps on giving. That’s right, you can legally make and distribute your own weed infused products. Something tells me White Elephant parties in Portland are a hazy experience.
Portland, Maine
East Coast in the house! Up and down the east coast the opposition to legalization is strong, but not in this haven. Renowned for the strains the climate induces, Portland, Maine also has some seriously lenient usage laws. This may be the best place for the OG stoners to retire their party hats and puff-puff-pass on their porch swings. With a famous signature strain called “Warlock”, this city may be the most surprising inclusion on the list.
Oakland, Califorina
This one may seem strange, as Oakland is more well known for its violence and inability to keep its sports franchises, but the city’s famous “Oaksterdamn University” is looking to change that reputation one weed brownie at a time. Known for their weed cafes, clubs and dispensaries, the city is also most noteworthy for its school that trains people on pot.
Maui, Hawaii
As if this paradise couldn’t get any better, the islands offer the best bud you’re going to get from US soil. The climate is perfect for the cash crop and as one of the earliest adopters of legal weed, they’ve been at it for a while. In fact, if you worship at the house of weed, you’ll feel right at home in the THC Ministry. I mean, I guess some people aren’t fans of perfect weather, beautiful beaches and SPAM everything, but people are also known to be wrong.
Louisville, Kentucky
As surprising as our last east coast entrant is, the Bluegrass stat may be the most shocking of all. Indeed, Louisville may be the best and worst kept secret in the stoner culture. Their laws are some of the most lenient in the country and the quality produced is incredible. This, however, may not be the most inspiring state if your one of those stoners who likes to get high and hit the attractions.
Humboldt Co., Califorina
If quantity over quality is your focus, Humboldt is your home. This is not to say they’re not creating some vivid and potent strains, but they produce 30% of the weed grown in the good ol’ US of A. Police have recently begun cracking down on growing operations, but they’re still going strong. Put down your phone, smoke a doob, drink and amazing craft beer, and explore the incredible red wood forests.
Fort Collins, Colorado
If Colorado is the mecca of American Stoners, then this is may be their capital. Is it any wonder that all the Colorado cities on this list are not only highly regarded for their marijuana laws, but for their quality of life? Fort Collins is no different. You’ll be joined by a large, exuberant and youthful population as you explore new strains. More of a DIY kind of person? You can grow up to 6 plants, but no more than 12 a year.
Anchorage, Alaska
Everyone knows that stoner who wants to wander through the woods when they’re high. They crave mother nature and will sit in peace all day, basking in her many wonders. If this is you, then Anchorage may be your home. As far as laws go, this may be the laxest location on this list. There are no limits on how much you can possess and it’s even legal to grow up to 6 plants on your own property. This is a nature stoners dream.
Boulder, Colorado
Co-ed eye candy may be one of the greatest benefits of sparking up in Boulder. The University of Colorado has some amazing scenery, if you know what I mean. Fresh air, winter sports and weed gummies, what else could you possibly want?
