When you’re in the limelight, especially as a musician, there’s always a sense of nervousness around the time you turn 27. While there’s no statistical data that supports that there is a curse, you do have to wonder why some of the best and brightest in music never saw their 28th birthday.
Originally, the 27 Club wasn’t a thing, until 1970, when Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison all died at 27. Then fans started putting together theories that the more influential you are, the more brilliant, the more likely it is that you’ll join the club. When Cobain died, people definitely started to believe that there was a curse. There’s a whole list on Wikipedia of everyone who’s died at that age, and it’s some compelling evidence.
