There was something about the early 90’s that made it the perfect time for trading cards to become the currency of our youth. Every day at recess, there was a flurry of trades across hockey and baseball to get sets completed. I wasn’t much into sports at time, so my jam was the non-sport ones; the movie cards, X-Men cards and most importantly The Garbage Pail kids. Those were my favourite.
For the most part, the cards you could find at the corner store and local comic shop made sense. But then card producers started to go off the rails and made sets that had a snowball’s chance in hell of making it big.
I don’t know of anyone who collected any of these, and I probably wouldn’t have hung out with them, if they did.
