One of the biggest concerns I ever heard from family and friends when I was a more involved gamer, was that I was wasting time on games, that could have been spent elsewhere. I could have been learning a language, upgrading my job skills, finding a wife, blah, blah, blah… What they didn’t understand then, was that I was doing all those things. Gaming teaches you a hell of a lot of skills, more than you realize.
Pick any job posting out there; chances are there are requirements like ‘detail-oriented,’ ‘problem solver,’ a ‘team player’ and even maybe know a second language or two. Well, guess what, big corporate recruiting guy… games have those skills and more, just by playing various genres of games.
Too bad you can’t list your Xbox achievements on a resume. That’d definitely show them how talented you really are.
