When you look back at your history of movie watching and really think about which particular films you watched on VHS until they caught fire, you probably wouldn’t be surprised that most of them were directed by Steven Spielberg. He’s easily Hollywood’s most prolific and successful living director, who can deftly pivot between movies of childlike wonder, and absolute terror. It’s hard to believe that the same man that brought us Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park & E.T., also delivered depressing movies like Schindler’s List, The Colour Purple & Saving Private Ryan. Each one of them, a masterpiece.
But not all of his films are considered equal, however. While I love his early works and some of the recent stuff, he’s had a few films that I wouldn’t really add to my obsessive rewatch list. They’re still all fantastic, but I thought I’d share my personal ranking of his films, based on my preferences. Feel free to disagree and order them differently.
