Pollution is a growing problem. Literally, every day. And while I currently live in a city (Austin) that frequently charges me for use of plastic bags in grocery stores (if I forget to bring my own), though frustrating, I do see the bigger picture. Plastic bags are a major contributor to the escalating debris and trash build up around the globe.
With that concern in mind, Thailand kicked off 2020 fighting their environmental problem by banning all single-use plastic bags at some of the major stores. According to Reuters, it’s a continuation of a campaign by the local government and retailers steering the country towards a massive reduction of waste and debris in the surrounding areas.
But you might expect Thailand’s citizens to take to social media raging with protests. However, this isn’t the case at all. Instead, most citizens have calmly moved on and found suitable, often bizarre, replacements that more than do the job of plastic bags.
