I am not sure why I had never heard this before after watching years and years of Olympic events, but for some reason I never actually knew that the athletes were paid depending on their performance in the games.
When Hidilyn Diaz took the gold for the Philippines on Monday, her government and local businesses banded together to award her with a house, a condo, and $660,000. Now, I know that sounds steep, but it is the Philippines first ever gold medal.
