Though we’ve all heard the term “work-life balance,” many still struggle to make this concept a reality, which often leads to overworking, worse job performance, and even burnout, according to an article in Vice.
Despite the pandemic and the increased awareness of the mental health effects of overworking, Vice reported that “54% of employees feel overworked and 39% feel exhausted.”
Identifiable Signs:
Taking short breaks does not help.
If you are just tired and not experiencing burnout, taking a break for a few hours a day to connect with friends or eat a nice meal will help, according to the article.
“When you are tired, there is some decrease in functionality, but when you are burnt out, it also shakes your sense of purpose and identity, perhaps both personal and professional,” Mumbai-based counseling psychologist Sneha Janaki explained to Vice.
Burnout can also lead to prolonged detachment and disinterest and causes both mental and physical exhaustion.
