This Monday I made a call to Brian Mercedes, the head of Chive Charities. Brian is also African American and my brother-in-law. I wanted to hear his point of view on the events unfolding in America. He said something that has stuck with me,
“This “all or nothing” mentality that seems to be tearing our country apart. Not all protesters are violent. Not all cops are bad. It’s not a left versus right problem. Use your voice to make change happen, whether that’s talking to others, peacefully protesting, spreading awareness through social media, or voting. That’s up to you. And no, if you choose not to protest or if you don’t share your opinion on social media, that doesn’t mean you are part of the problem, either.”
