Two days ago, John introduced us to Sydni Dupre. When she was 10 years old, Sydni started experiencing a loss of coordination and balance. With the eventual diagnosis of Friedreich’s Ataxia, she began to lose a lot more. She lost her ability to walk. When she became dependent on a wheelchair, she lost her social life and even began losing her friends. Doors were closed to her, and paths forward were blocked, literally and figuratively.
Growing up in rural Louisiana, she could forget about getting out and about. Non-existent wheelchair accessibility, gravel, cobblestone roads, and uneven surfaces – all nightmares for anyone in a wheelchair – excluded Sydni and had her feeling trapped for years.
