You ever notice how frequently major movie studios release films that are damn near the same motion picture, at almost the exact same time? The phenomenon, known as “twin” movies, happens more often then you think, and there’s a reason for that. Of course, on occasion, similar movies released around the same time is pure coincidence, however, as Forbes contributor Mark Hughes explained in a 2011 Quora post, it could be the studio’s attempt to piggyback off a competitor’s potentially successful picture.

1998: “Armageddon” and “Deep Impact”
Studios saw the end of the world coming, and it would be at the hands of a giant asteroid. Personally, I think Armageddon is such a fun summer blockbuster, with great one liners and moments like Steve Buscemi riding a nuclear warhead.
