The movie was intended to launch a Marvel Cinematic Universe–like franchise based around Universal’s classic monsters (which would have been badass). But, simply put, the movie was bad. It was so unsuccessful, that the entire franchise was killed. Surprisingly though, the movie ended up having the biggest international opening in Tom Cruise’s entire career!
