Regardless of what the artist might try to communicate (if anything) in a song, the listener assigns their own meaning because they’re having an experience with the music that is unique to the individual. No one else has their mind, their heart, their experiences. It is perhaps my favorite thing about the form of expression.
Hell, you don’t even have to assign a meaning if you don’t want to. You can listen to music because you like the beat. Because it feels good with a drink in your hand. Because it makes your morning commute move faster.
