It doesn’t matter how physically imposing you are or how much bravado you put out, at our cores we’re all still human. And humans can be hurt. A bodybuilder out of Maryland, Bobby Humphreys, would probably appear to most to be a man with very few vulnerabilities. But nobody is immune to pain, and Bobby was no different.
Bobby spent most of his days in the gym and laying specialty hardwood floors and surrounded himself with one of the toughest breeds of dogs on earth — Rottweilers. Bobby stated that he and his wife of 17 years had owned three of them over the course of their marriage, and he admitted to admiring the breeds’ regal, imposing look.
“All guys have egos and it’s a big dick-measuring contest,” Humphreys told The Dodo. “Who can have the prettiest girl? Who can have the biggest house? Who can have the best car? Who can have the toughest-looking dog? We’re all insecure at heart.”
“I was just that ‘Big Dog Guy.’ I never even thought of a little dog.”
But all that machismo and confidence came to a humbling halt in 2016 on New Year’s Eve. Humphreys’ wife walked out on him and just a week later, he injured his shoulder at the gym, requiring reconstructive surgery.
