Chelsea Christer’s ‘Out for Delivery’ flawlessly blends loss and laughter – SXSW 2025

As with most SXSW festivals we were pretty busy running around to panels and red carpets. This year, I was lucky enough to sit down and screen a new dark comedy short.
Out for Delivery – which premiered at Sundance Film Festival – follows Joanna who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Thanks to the Death with Dignity Act, she chooses to end her life as painlessly as possible. However, an unexpected and gut-wrenchingly beautiful friendship is born when Joanna schedules a funeral employee, Mark to come retrieve her body.
The film is directed by Chelsea Christer and stars the incredibly talented, Deanna Rooney and Martin Starr.
