Perfectly posed and filtered, the pictures shared online no longer offer a glimpse into the real person. Rather, they are an artificial front displaying the life they wish to convey. But it wasn’t always like this. Just 10 or 15 years ago, people’s online photo accounts were untouched and uncensored. They were genuine slices of life. Doug Battenhausen is fascinated by these old, abandoned photos, so he started the “Internet History” project. He combs through random, ordinary people’s now defunct Photobucket and Flickr accounts to find hidden gems.
