On July 11th, 2020, Stuart Manley, the owner of Barter Books, Ltd. bought a box of antique books at a secondhand auction in Northumbria, England. As he was sorting through the books to see what he’d scored, Stuart noticed a faded red poster resting neatly at the bottom of the box. Stuart held the poster up. It read ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’. He asked his wife what she thought of it?
“Well it’s the epitome of Britishness. But, it’s got an inspiring message.”
Stuart agreed. Later that week he framed the poster and hung it up behind the cash register. Stuart didn’t know it, but there were only 15 ‘Keep Calm’ posters in existence and none of them had seen the light of day in over 60 years.
