If you’re like me, you probably think of changing careers to become a profiler for the BAU every time you watch Criminal Minds. Realistically, there wouldn’t be enough serial killer cases to keep their specialized team busy.
According to the FBI, a serial killer is “someone who commits at least three murders over more than a month with an emotional cooling off period in between”. However, studies show that less than 1% of all homicides are carried out by serial killers. Therefore, most cases investigated by homicide detectives are individual murders, not a crazy killer trying to complete a skin suit.
