Thomas Kyd’s Ur-Hamlet
We all remember Hamlet, arguably one of the most famous Shakespearean plays in history. However, a playwright by the name of Thomas Kyd apparently wrote a version of the play at least a decade before Shakespeare. It is believed to be called “Ur-Hamlet” and is unfortunately nowhere to be found. Furthermore, we really don’t know much about Thomas Kyd other than that he was a very influential playwright back in the day. If we ever do find the original copy of “Ur-Hamlet” we would be able to tell how much of Shakespeare’s most famous play was really an original Shakespeare piece.
