Late last year, we received a support ticket from a donor named Mark Beagles titled “How can I stop my Chive Charities donations?” The 60-year-old former Illinois State Trooper had been a Gold level member, donating every month for years.
“I hate to do this, but I need to stop my contributions to Chive Charities,” the email read.
Then came the reason why.
“I was informed yesterday I have less than six months to live,” he wrote. “Cancer is going to win.”
But this email was about more than the cancer. His wife would tell me later about his habit of helping others – his illness wasn’t going to change that. Less than a day after his terminal diagnosis, Mark was wondering if we could help him with a plan he had. One last way he could give back.
“I would like to donate all of my Chive Coins back to either headquarters or to a Chive Branch so the proceeds can be given to Chive Charities.”
We’re on it, Mark.
