This time of year in western Pennsylvania, Fridays are reserved for football. That sentiment rings even more true when the town of Karns City – population just around 200 – is swarmed with the traffic of a Gremlins’ football game.
Students from surrounding towns and communities join together to form Karns City High School. On Friday nights Diehl Stadium is filled with those donning the purple and gold, making up a fanbase that rivals Texas high schools. And in a place where locals will literally watch a game at the American Legion on their phone, football is everything.
This past Friday however, cheers turned to utter silence.
