For almost 6 years, Vancouver and the surrounding areas were a character in the X-Files. With the moody atmosphere, and varying types of landscape and architecture, Vancouver was able to stand in for the majority of the locations that the story dictated.
Unfortunately, mid way through the series, the show moved down to L.A., and you could argue that this was the show took a little bit of an atmospheric downturn, as it was the locale that helped create the iconic look and feel of the show.
Even worse, a lot has changed since the series began and ended. As is often the case with filming at run-down places for that extra atmosphere, many buildings have been since demolished or revamped… but not all of them.
