The oldest recorded joke dates back to 1900 BCE. It’s an Ancient Sumer goof that goes: “Something which has never occurred since time immemorial; a young woman did not fart in her husband’s lap.” By the time the Greeks came along, they were writing entire collections of books. Here are some of the best from the oldest of such jokebooks, which is called Philogelos, roughly translating to “Laughter Lover.”
