A robotic yellow submarine called Boaty McBoatface is off on its first trip to Antarctica. The journey comes after the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) asked the internet to name its brand new research boat.
While the NERC did not go with the popular vote to name the boat Boaty McBoatface — they instead named it after Planet Earth narrator David Attenborough — the team decided to honor the democratic process and give the name to the unmanned submarine.
