Future gun XM-25 uses calculated range to explode on target (7 Photos and Video)

XM-25 will be able to set the fuse of each round to explode over the target, to create maximum effect. After placing the aimpoint on the target and activating the laser rangefinder, the system calculates the range to the target, and converts it to time of flight for fuse setting. XM25 will utilize the XM116 integral fire control system, which will include day and night channels, laser rangefinder, fuse setter, compass, ballistic computer and an internal display.

Begs the question, why did they sh%# can the configuration in #2? Always ooked like an awesome total replacement for indivitual riflemen who could then have the power of this grenade launch system and control and precision of a carbine at their disposal at all times. Now you would have to have a dedicaded grenedier carry this weapon who will either have to lug a second carbine or rely on a pistol for anything less then a major fire fight where a grenade launcher would be the most appropriate weapon. Just a thought.

The weapon in Picture #2 was the experimental version of the Xm-25. It was called the OICW. The OICW weighed 30 lbs fully loaded. It had 15 different buttons in order to program the shells to detonate in the right place. They kind of had to simplify it and cut down the weight a little bit.

It's either that or let all service members do an annual cycle of steiroids.

    There are options.
