Just when I thought I couldn’t like the South Park creators anymore they go and point out just how corrupt and flawed the MPAA truly is. Parker and Stone berate the MPAA for their favoritism towards big studios and illustrate just how unfairly small studios and independent filmmakers are being treated. ‘Merica….fuck yeah!

I've seen the documentary This Film Is Not Yet Rated and in it it says that if the MPAA gives an NC17 rating, it's like a death sentence for the film. It's almost impossible to market an NC17 movie. And there doesn't have to be nudity or full sex scenes to get that rating. It's whatever the panel of judges decides. The documentary does some intelligence work and finds out information on the secret panel and how corrupt the panel is.

Stuff White People Like #3, Film Festivals/Independent Films.

White people can’t enough of Film Festivals. Especially Sundance, Toronto, and Cannes. The reason why they love them so much can be due to a number of factors.

Fact #1 – 90% of white people have taken a film class at some point in their life.

Fact #2 – White people like feeling smart without doing work – 2 hours in a theater is easier than 10 hours with book.

Fact #3 – If white people aren’t going back packing, they generally like to travel with a specific purpose.

Fact #4 – 75% of white people believe they either have the potential to or will become filmmakers/screenwriters/directors at some point.

Fact #5 – White people hate stuff that is ‘mainstream’ – so they go to film festivals where they see movies that every other person in their demographic wants to see. It’s a pretty sweet way to rebel.

Fact #6 – It is required by white person law, that you publicly declare that foreign cinema is better than Hollywood Cinema, and on par with Indie Film.

Fact #7 – White people earn credibility by being into film from strange countries – “oh you liked Batman? Yeah, I didn’t see it, I’m really into Serbian film now. They had a great retrospective at the Vancouver Festival.”

Stuff White People Like #18, Awareness

An interesting fact about white people is that they firmly believe that all of the world’s problems can be solved through “awareness.” Meaning the process of making other people aware of problems, and then magically someone else like the government will fix it.

This belief allows them to feel that sweet self-satisfaction without actually having to solve anything or face any difficult challenges. Because, the only challenge of raising awareness is people not being aware. In a worst case scenario, if you fail someone doesn’t know about the problem. End of story.

What makes this even more appealing for white people is that you can raise “awareness” through expensive dinners, parties, marathons, selling t-shirts, fashion shows, concerts, eating at restaurants and bracelets. In other words, white people just have to keep doing stuff they like, EXCEPT now they can feel better about making a difference.

Raising awareness is also awesome because once you raise awareness to an acceptable, aribtrary level, you can just back off and say “Bam! did my part. Now it’s your turn. Fix it.”

So to summarize – you get all the benefits of helping (self satisfaction, telling other people) but no need for difficult decisions or the ensuing criticism (how do you criticize awareness?). Once again, white people find a way to score that sweet double victory.

Popular things to be aware of: The Environment, Diseases like Cancer and AIDS, Africa, Poverty, Anorexia, Homophobia, Midde School Field Hockey/Lacrosse teams, Drug Rehab, and political prisoners.

Stuff White People Like #82, Hating Corporations.

One of the more popular white person activities of the past fifteen years is attempting to educate others on the evils of multi-national corporations. White people love nothing more than explaining to you how Wal*Mart, McDonalds, Microsoft, Halliburton are destroying the Earth’s culture and resources.

While the growth of multi-national corporations can be attributed to a number of complex social, economic and political factors, many white people prefer to take the word of two trusted sources: No Logo and AdBusters.

Published in 2000, No Logo has been responsible for more white person “enlightenment” than any book since the burning of the library at Alexandria. By reading this one magic book, white people are able to get a full grasp on the evils of multi-national corporations and then regurgitate it to friends and family.

Advanced white people will supplement No Logo with a subscription to AdBusters, where they will learn how to subvert corporate culture and return it to the masses. Specifically, this means taking ads and redoing them to give a negative message about a product. Apparently the belief is that when other people see this ad, they will be hit with an epiphany that their entire existence has been a Matrix-style manufactured universe.
