Hero construction worker saves drowning woman (10 Photos)

Patricia Neely and her husband Alan were scouting for the perfect place to watch a firework display in Des Moines, Iowa, when their boat got too close to a dam and washed over. Sadly, Alan's life jacket slipped off an he was swept away by the current. He didn't survive the ordeal.

Meanwhile, Patricia was caught in the churning waters beneath the dam. When a small rescue boat was unable to reach her because of the treacherous conditions, a nearby construction crew sprung to action. Jason Oglesbee, a construction worker with Cramer & Associates turned to his crane operator, Joe Lowe, and they knew what they had to do.

Jason fastened himself in a harness and Joe carefully lowered him over the dangerous water. Jason was able to hold Patricia up while Joe moved them into calmer waters where the rescue boat was able to grab Patricia and take her for medical attention.

After it was over, both men immediately returned back to work. Amazing work, Jason and Joe. Read the full story here.

It's shit like this that makes me happy to know that not everyone is a complete piece of unadulterated monkey shit.

    • Anakrusix

It's exactly what i was thinking.

Except with less french wording and monkeys.

      • JTMo-Nay

Monkeys make everything better. And Cheese. Monkeys and Cheese. and Blowjobs. Monkeys and Cheese and Blowjobs.

But not all at the same time. Because that's just weird.

I am suprised the crane could lift balls of that size.

    • http://echogeo.wordpress.com/ echogeo

That's because Joe's balls were used as ballast.

Good job construction workers! Congratulations on your Darwin Awards nomination, Alan!

    • patov40

Should be Cristi_"C", cause that's the word I think of for a woman that would make a comment like that.

      • BigHate

Just say it, she's a cunt.

    • 0Bianka0

I'm sooo not an EMO:D I love my life, and I love my boyfriend. I wouldn't want to live in a world where he doesn't exist. If they have kids, that's a totally different situation.

      • Gern Blansten

        Yeah, actually, you are.

        • 0Bianka0

No, I just actually imagined what her life's gonna be from now on. If you lose your other half, it must be excrutiating. I AM emotional, but I'm not an emo. I'm not some naive 15 year old kid, that is all.

          • Ummm-

I'm pretty sure that emo stands for emotional…Just sayin'

            • E.V.L.

Well what the fuck are you, a goddamned robot? Everyone has emotions, dipshit … just sayin'.

          • Sally

I lost the love of my life 4 years ago, and trust me, the idea of following him did cross my mind. However, I considered the people I would be leaving behind, especially my young nephew. What message would it have sent to him? It hurts, but it does get better. Life does go on, and good times do happen. In fact, it is even possible to love again just as deeply, even if it's not exactly the same. I know. I just got married on January the first.

            • 0Bianka0

              Congratulations! Thank you:)

              • E.V.L.

Don't listen to the trolls, hon. I have no idea what you said since you deleted it, but believe me, the pack of dogs who call themselves 'Chivers' are an extremely immature lot and unfortunately, theChive gives them a voice and they use it to display how stupid they really are.

      • Monk

I respect that a lot actually. I'll get thumbs downed for saying it. But fuck these other guys, i'm with you. It was my first thought as well.

        • huh

Using my best Beavis voice – "hehe, he just said 'butt fuck these other guys" hehe".

          • Monk

        • amrith777

Well–I'll say this.I am with the love of my life.We met as children and we were each others first everything.Time and tide came between us over the years–but Fate eventually stepped in about 6 years ago–when we caught each other casually on Classmates. We were platonic friends for 2 years–I eventually visited her and after I left–she admitted 2 weeks later that she had feelings for me.I realized I did too and we have been together now for almost 4 years and cannot imagine life without the other. We are both in our mid 40's.I hope neither of us ever have to find out how this feels. And no–we are not emo–just madly in like and in love.

          • 0Bianka0

            Thank you.

            • amrith777

              You are welcome.

    • hMMMM

Um…didn't mean to cause this much commotion and emotional scarring?

PUAHAHAHAHAHAHA – the fact that this went to 60 something replies only reiterates my first comment, "Fucking emos…".

  • Royce

That guy must be a Chiver.

    • OwnerOfYou

Both of them… definitely Chivers, whether or not they know it. Send them shirts!!!

      • BloodScrubber

  • http://blog.tomsforeign.com Edward

Great save. Two heroes right there.

  • Vaughn

Don't listen to them Bianka..obviously they've never been IN LOVE. (Juveniles…or juvenile mentality)

    • 0Bianka0

      I know.

    • ako

No. Wanting to kill yourself because your "other half" dies is juvenile mentality.

      • 0Bianka0

I'm not saying I would want to kill myself, jeeeez. All I'm saying is that if I knew he's dead I wouldn't want to be saved. I wouldn't kill myself, ever.

        • mac

if you dont save yourself you would be basically killing yourself….

        • Rangerdanger

Taking no action to save your own life in such a situation IS killing yourself.

      • E.V.L.

Why don't YOU fucking try it sometime!

    • nomnomnomnom

I've been in love enough to know the World doesn't end when it's over.

  • mvbats

    Nice piece… well done Chive.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFKCPLHB6i0 Fireman Matt

I love stories like this. Regular, ordinary everyday people doing extraordinary tasks! Simply outstanding post Chive!

  • 0Bianka0

It's weird that you guys don't get it. Kinda sad, too. Imagine that the one person you love most in the world died in the same accident you survived. How could you enjoy life from then on?

    • 0Bianka0

And I'm not talking about killing myself, I'm talking about how difficult life's gonna be for that poor woman knowing that his husband died and she survived.

      • Sally

On another note, I do believe that as long as we alive and breathing, we have a purpose. We just don't always know what it is, or even bother looking for it. I understand your feelings, though, and the point you are trying to make (My aunt survived a car wreck, but her daughter didn't). Still, if a person survives something, even if a high level of guilt remains, they need to consider that there must be a purpose and then look for it.

For myself, after my husband's tragic death, I used my story to help stop a teenaged student from committing suicide. Was it worth my pain? Yes. Her life and happiness were certainly worth it. And I would go through it all again to help someone else.

      • roshambo

how do u know he wasnt beating the shit outta her all the time? she may be pretty damn happy and rich now

  • EJK

Why is she naked? Did her clothes get sucked off by the current?

    • Jen

    • nomnomnomnom

Well I don't think she went to watch the fireworks without pants….

    • bclark

I was thinking the same thing. It looks likes she's naked in #6

    • This Is Me

Current that strong will do that, and quickly.

    • Coldzilla

All thats going on and THATS what you focus on? =/

  • Ramennov

An ex-girlfriend once told me that there are no good people in the world. I'm so very glad she's wrong.

    • busted

There are just no good ex girlfriends in the world.

    • word up

That may have been a passive aggressive way of saying, "man the fuck up".

  • bob

Talking like that even though you're NOT married means your point of view is just over-romanticised BS probably generated by various Hollywood-movies.

You ONLY have a boyfriend (big difference) so you have no idea what you're talking about.
Life is gonna be tough for you if you're really that naive.

    • 0Bianka0

You have no idea of our relationship, so I don't think that you could judge whether I "know what I'm talking about".

      • Rick

Why do men usually die before their wives?

        Because they want to!

  • Thor

Chills I got all over again. I remember when this happened. It reminds me of Captain Sully landing on the Hudson River. Some rare people just "get it."

  • 0Bianka0

You have a point, I gotta agree. Once again, I'm not saying that I'd kill myself. I'm just saying it would be very, very hard to enjoy my life.
