I dont care about the effects, King Kong knocks the shit out of that t-rex

    • Paula_

The last "King Kong" movie should be renamed to "Too Long" though. SUCKED!

      straight rape sesh

    • suckerss

this video is like 3 years old, wtf, seriously chive, u sucks a lot lately ! bring some new stuff !

  • Dantheloser

It's interesting how the most recent three films look the worst out of all these. And also how Jurassic Park still makes my jaw drop to the floor.

    • r@f

they forgot The Matrix bullet time. That shit was revolutionary.

    • LukeSkywalker

Still amazed at Terminator 2, too.

  • DrInsane2U

    wow that was so cool

  • Logan

I wish you guys would just embed this shit to Youtube. Your video player sucks.

    • U McTube

for the love of chive this, seriously wtf is this glitchy viddler shit

  • lexus

Unbalievable so much fx movies that are meh and you people forget to put industries best in there Avatar and Transformers 😡

  • Josh Gorter

    • Randy Marsh

Recycled footage is nothing new. It's saves directors millions of dollars in their budget. Unless you point it out like this, most people never notice.

    • sully23

Shows how much Michael Bay sucks and just needs to throw movies out there as quickly as possible not caring about quality

    • Josh Gorter

Recycled footage is fine, but in a movie that is action and CGI based I don't think a director should just be able to copy his old work.

    • anon

they actually chose to use that scene because in the original shoot a guy got paralyzed during the stunt and he didn't want to try again.

    • Dude

I would look at bad boys 2 again. Michael bay used the same concept for a highway chase again, i wouldn't be surprised if he recycled footage from that too.

  • Mos Eisley

    Not pictured: HD clips.

  • yodaddy

The Death Star explosion wasn't the one from 77, it was the one from when it was rereleased. great video though. could have added the boat scene from the original Willy Wonka, wasn't hugely technical but still freaky as hell at the time

    • Forrest Herron

that scene used to scare the shit out of me as a kid ha

  • Brad Stevens

    This was pretty bad ass

  • Nashbar

I'm a bit surprised there was no Matrix clips.

    • J.D.

Especially bc it was released in 1999… it'd split that decade they decided not to include

    • Angela

Especially given the 9-year gap in the video that it would have filled (between Jurassic Park and Spider-man 2).

  • Shawn Michael George

Man, when Jurassic Park was released I remember how it looked totally real. Now it looks obviously fake and the POTC movies look real. Maybe in another 15 years, I'll be talking about how fake POTC looks.

    • dave

Jurassic park looks fake? Are you a moron?

      • Shawn Michael George

Nope. Guess I am just more discerning than you.

Avatar looked fake too, btw. And that was also a completely shit movie.

        • @RobTausch

          Avatar was fake?!?!

          • Lawndart

Shawn Michael guy above doesn't understand why everything looks fake… ON HIS TV.

  • Hypno

I just want to point out how awesome Blue Man Group is. Man, do I love that song!!

  • OneClownShoe

I still think Tron is a bad ass SPFX movie.

  • Travis

To this day, Jurassic Park still has some of the best special effects I've seen

  • Astromek21

I wonder why there is a full decade gap after Jurassic Park

    • Birdhaus32

There were a lot of gaps through out the whole thing. Some of them more than a decade.

    • JHL1

Because nobody in the world has an attention span longer than 5 minutes any more.

  • J.D.

How on earth can they jump from 1993 to 2004? Weak.

    • HalP

Exactly, I mean LOTR was there – talk about spec effects.

      • Sterling Crawford

        Independence Day, '99 right?

    • maverick

should have had Matrix in there at 1999 at the very least.

  • misschris

Since it's about visual effects, I really think Inception shoulda been in there. That street folding scene was crazy. But cool video still 🙂

    • itsjustme

this video is about 3 years old. Inception wasn't out yet. 🙂 Maybe someone should remake it and add a few things.

      • John

thatd be a good idea, add in the matrix, inception, and maybe even avatar. Im just too damn lazy

  • acoustrix

King Kong made it twice! Baller! Too bad the 2nd one blew

  • Joshua

    We've come a long way.

they forgot Matrix, Avatar, and maybe tranformers…but still a good spot. Fan of movie magix

  • Dude

I saw Jurassic Park when I was about 7, in theaters. I shat myself and thought they had a real dino park.

  • Bill Ivory

    That was great.

  • Zak

Cool vid but I still prefer the classic effects like from The Thing. Still my favourite horror movie ever.

    • MigraineBoy

I just saw The Thing last week. Great movie!

    • Fasteddy14

The remake of The Thing was fairly ahead of it's time though looks dated in a world of CG. I loved the scene where they visit the alien ship…looked real enough to me… I always like movies where they withheld the scariest element for as long as possible to let the tension build. The actual scary element was never all that scary.

Alien changed that for me…I was really impressed with the special effects from "Alien" and "Aliens". Aliens may have been the best sequel that I have ever seen, besides the Empire Strikes Back…

  • J_Nathan

Nice collection, especially of the early films. I key one to add would be Willow which was the first to use the digital technology that later became Terminator 2, Abyss, and Jurassic Park (and really everything else since). Other importent milestone films: Sky Captain (all green screen), Dragonslayer (go-motion), Star Trek 2 WOK (digital Genesis sequence), Last Starfighter (digital effects)…and like folks said above Matrix and Avatar. Love the vid though!

  • itsjustme

For those wondering why Inception, Avatar etc. aren't presented, it's because the video's a couple of years old, posted on Youtube in July 2009. Nice to see the chive keeping up with the times…
