Admit it, your childhood kind of ruled (38 Photos)

  • thrust parker

#7 one of the worst gaming systems ever!

    • Escelante

And by "worst", you mean best, right?

    • danny

no thats the xbox 360 your thinking of

    • CableGuy2011

You have to be kidding me! Dreamcast ruled! Try playing NFL 2K with your buddies and selecting you plays on the controller screen, you actually had to know football then to play!

And 2nd reason why it ruled….Crazy Mother Fucking Taxi! Hells yeah!

      • ChiSide

        You have 10 CRAZY minutes!

    • Matt

      agreed, terrible.

    • TripKore

I had to chime in on this one. Sega revolutionized gaming with this. 4 controllers, first console on the internet. Graphics were a big step up from the original PSX. Shitloads of games. And you didn't have to mod it. Simple file/hardware glitch allowed you to play any game for free!

      You sir, fail.

      • Shinanigins

My friend and I dominated NBA2k on the internet….. it was the most amazing thing ever at the time.

      • Bobby

Word on the street is they're coming out with a new verison of Dreamcast!!!

        • Robert

"Word on the street…"you're a fucking idiot.

      • KyleGamgee

"play any game for free!" – This was fatal. Console makers LOSE MONEY on every system sold, hoping to make it back with software sales, meaning games. Piracy killed the Dreamcast – killed it dead and about took SEGA with it.

My favorite game was Chu Chu Rocket. ❤

    • Mr.Awesome

that's blasphemy, and you should die.

    • Tress33

The only reason the Dreamcast disappeared so quickly was because of Playstation. If you actually play one (a buddy of mine had one in college a couple years back) it's pretty damn solid for the time.

    • inaparkinglot

Street Fighter Third Strike. That is all.

      • Daith_Lee

Which I still play on there and xbox live..

    • hMMMM

is that Randy Moss on the cover? Remember him and Cris Carter tearing it up, and Culpepper just launching bombs and trucking people? They've really been pitiful since, but they did have a few nice regular seasons in the late '90s

    • El Jefe

While the good Chivers have already fixed your flawed thinking, I still wonder how the DC made this list. Feels like 3 weeks ago.

      • Adam

Add House of the Dead 2 to the list of great games on the Dreamcast.

        • the other Adam!

hell yes!! that one was awesome!!

    • Cotteux

One of the best console I know, and I have a lot of console more than 50.

    • TurboCDN

Thrust parker, are you serious or are you just trolling because this was one of the best systems ever. The graphics beat out any other system of it's time and the games were great. The things that killed it were Sega's track record (Sega 32x, Sega CD, Sega Saturn all flopped) and very few games were available for it. That is why Sony won. Sony had a ton of games available for the Playstation (even though well over half of them were crap).

    • Toby

Ready 2 Rumble Boxing + Toy Commander … Your argument is invalid

    • charlie

Seriously dipshit, when you have this turd to compare it to?

  • ncguy

#37 “air brakes”…still watch it every year

    • Dick Folgers

    • Underbaker

#24 Yeah those kids are doing a lousy job of it.

      • JHL1

      • theRealRealist

Snopes is wrong for a change…Rite Aid where I lived did, but no one else would.

        • Dork

Snopes is right, if you read the article it says that some stores offered free candy in exchange but it was not sanctioned by tootsie. So, whoever was in charge at your local Rite Aid decided to do it…you said yourself that they were the only place that would. How does that make snopes wrong?

    • theRealRealist

Rite Aid was the only place that I knew of that accepted them. They only did a couple at a time though, so you couldn't cash in a whole stack of these.

    • PJH

at the youth baseball park during our games, we used to take them up to concession stand and they would give us a free tootsie pop in exchange for the wrapper with a star on it

    • Sweet D

A local store in my town did, but it was a small town so who knows.

    • Lisa

I actually sent my wrapper in to the company, and they sent me back some letter with the ancient tale of how the Tootsie Roll got put into the center of the Tootsie Pop. Not QUITE the free bag of candy I was expecting, but still kind of neat.

    • Sleeping Giant

Huh. I never knew about that SNOPES thing, but my local corner store honored that and always gave me another Tootsie Roll Pop…it wasn't a bag of candy. They just gave me another one.

    • sadman

My 7-11 did it for a few years and then one day told me there was no policy for the give away 😦

    • Jackelone

Every store I went into in Colorado did it! yay

      • JHL1

        Really? Both of them?

  • All methed up

Adam west took care of the noid

  • ryan

surf ninjas was an epic movie but it sure wasn’t on dvd in the early 90’s

    • Underbaker

Wanted to prove him wrong but got this from Wikipedia…
"The DVD Video format was first introduced by Toshiba in Japan in November 1996, in the United States in March 1997 (test marketed),[6] in Europe in October 1998, and in Australia in February 1999."

    • NateyTheGreaty

Surf Ninjas was actually my favorite movie as a kid. I (annoyingly) watched it multiple times per week. I will admit I still have a copy on VHS, haha.

  • Missoula

Being a kid was rad!! I’d still like to play with some of this shit on Saturday as I eat a bologna and cheese sandwich.

    • HotDogFingers

Yeah buddy! I tutor kids now and even the really young ones have iPhones and facebook accounts. Our childhood was so much better.

    • DTCM

    • NateyTheGreaty

We had them in gym class on the wall – you held onto two peg-like tools, and you put them in the holes and tried to climb to the top using your arm strength.

      • bigdeal

that peg board was a bitch. like 1 kid was only able to do it while we all stood around and admired him

      • Steve

I bet 90% of the kids today still can't do it

        • passwordistaco

          That's the 99% you're thinking of.

      • Paula_

        I think I'll stick around some more…

        • All Hail The Queen

Like the hating trolls love to pick on the departing queen Chivette who was far too kind to be nice to them. They don't deserve her Paula, they just don't.

        • Underbaker

Yep, just like Obama loves to screw the middle class, just like Atheist love to mess with Christians, and just how Chivers/Chivettes love to buy t-shirts. We do love you Paula, it would never be the same without you.

          • Paula_

Like Chive loves to steal from Reddit, like Lindsay loves the snow, like John loves the Sexy Chivers Selection Process, like Paula loves to set cats on fire.

            • Fill the Crown

O mi amore, Cats are not worthy of your pyromania needs. Have you begun the selection process for the new Chivette Queen our fairy godmother??

              • Paula_

No; it's not possible to replace somebody who was irreplaceable.

                – Fan testimonial: "Now I hate Paula as much as the next guy, but you gotta admit … this one was funny."

                • ChRis

Paula should submit sexy chiver photos 🙂

    • BentWrenches

You must be ancient,Cause I'M old and I remember most of this stuff.

    • SquishyFlint

If you're only realizing that because of a Chive nostalgia post, then you're still young enough 🙂

  • Juan

#7 The most underrated video game console of all time. It was revolutionary and ahead of it's time! RIP Dreamcast

    • 6655321

What RIP? If you have an ethernet adapter that was sold for them you can still play a lot of the games online and make your own. It's still a kickin' system.

    • Jamie

Maybe if they made the system with a DVD player, like Playstation, it might have succeeded. Definitely NOT ahead of its time.

      • Adam

Wasn't it the first system to allow online play? I believe that would qulify as being ahead of it's time.

        • The_Dood

I believe that the Saturn was. I know it is capable of going online because I have one. If I remember correctly Atari was actually originally planned to have some sort of quasi online play.

  • 3MC

    I fucking loved micro-machines!

    • fed

too bad they were fucking expensive…

    • USAF

      Until you stepped on one!

      • SimonPhoenix

LMAO .. Funny cause it's true!

    • Jay Costanza

Still scary as fuck.. Say what you will about the acting, dialog, and script but the way those clowns look still creeps me out.

      • Stinky Thumbs

What the hell is it? It doesn't look familiar at all.

        • big red

I think it it is Killer klowns from outer space

          • Red Rabbit

Epic, but the thing I remember most is being thirteen and completely fascinated by the concept of a chick that could make her boobs inflate.

            • Dream_Weaver

I'm 37 and still fascinated by that concept.

              • SimonPhoenix

DITTO (althought NOT quite 37 .. still fascinated)

    • Homestar13

Still the reason I hate clowns to this day.

      • MacNCheesePro

Me too! That movie scared me more than any other movie I'd seen!

  • Huzzah

#6 I found a Technodrome at a local shop, and purchased it for my nephew.
    #34 Castle Grayskull. . . nice.

    • DrGarnicus

Chive on for buying that toy for your nephew! That rocks!

  • Scott

    …ah, memories.

  • Mad Hittman

#8 Can it be that it was all so simple then? The good ol days…

    • Matt

That's me in the green. It was my 12th birthday mega-sleepover. I'm 40 and a half now. Notice the Love Boat on the dial TV. Good times.

      • passwordistaco

40 and a half? What did you do when you ran out of fingers and toes?

    • radiodial

No kid in the pic is obese, many thing have changed….

    • Paul

That is me on the bottom right in the red and white shirt. A few years later I brought the Clapper to attach to the TV….it burnt out the TV. We removed the Clapper and pretended that we didn't know why the TV was broken. Matt was very happy because it resulted in a new TV. Clap on..Clap off……yeah it never clapped on again.
