More than 150 officially confirmed kills: meet SEAL Chief Chris Kyle (10 Photos and story)

Let me begin with, I get e-mails about up-coming military related books almost every day but this one caught my attention.
The book is an autobiography of SEAL Chief Chris Kyle, who is the record-holding sniper in U.S. military history. Kyle has more than 150 officially confirmed kills (the previous American record was 109), though his remarkable career total has not been made public by the Pentagon. In his ten years (1999-2009) with the United States Navy SEAL Teams, Chris was deployed four times to Iraq and was awarded the two Silver Stars and five Bronze Stars with Valor. Chris was shot on two separate occasions and was in numerous IED explosions. Despite numerous wounds and an injury to his knee that eventually required surgery, Chris remained with his unit during combat. While in Ramadi it was learned that Chris had a bounty put on his head by local insurgents.  His nickname, given to him by the terrorists, was Al Shatan–the Devil. His fellow SEALs had begun referring to him by a different name: The Legend. “The raw and unforgettable narrative of the making of our country’s record-holding sniper, Chris Kyle’s memoir is a powerful book, both in terms of combat action and human drama. Chief Kyle is a true American warrior down to the bone, the Carlos Hathcock of a new generation.”—CHARLES W. SASSER, Green Beret (U.S. Army Ret.) and author of “One Shot, One Kill”.
Other than hitting Harper up for a copy of the book, I promise that I’m not getting any piece of the action (same with any of my recommendations)…I just think it’s going to be one hell of a story. The book goes on sale today.

his identity should have been protected, this is not something you publicly celebrate as well. bad call folks… most probably fiction…

    • Alan

That's your opinion and in my opinion, yours is a crappy one.

  • Rupert

President Obama killing Osama Bin Laden is still more impressive.

    • guest

hahahaha…you can not be serious?? I didnt know Obama put on the boots and went out on that raid with the SEALs?! O thats right…he didnt! Sat in his office and watched…you cant give Obama an ounce of credit for that raid and kill. He didnt do SHIT!!

      • dave

Not sure if trolling…or just stupid.

      • greg

You're an idiot. of course he didn't. Do you expect our President to actually go out and do any of the things that our Military does?

    • alan

obama doesn't have the balls to pull the trigger. But it is good that he had enough to give the order.

  • jared

There are many warrior heroes including Chris Kyle. To put on a uniform, put yourself in harm's way, and perform as Chief Kyle did is a singular accomplishment. My nephew was just awarded his Trident and assigned to a team. My son is a firefighter and in charge of pilot rescue on a Nimitz class carrier. A friend of mine just earned the Distinguished Service Order and serves in the British Army. Chief Kyle serves as inspiration to all who wear the uniform. They all deserve our respect.

What is wrong with all of you? How dare you celebrate this man taking 150 lives! You all will not even scratch the surface in an attempt to understand why we are at war, but any time a country song comes on and someone waives an American flag you think it’s cool to slaughter small portions of entire countries. Don’t listen to what the government says because they are just serial killers anyway. We are at war with Islam because they want our military out of their respective countries. Is that a bad thing? How would you feel if Iran bullied their way into our country and setup a huge army camp and airport next to your house and called it Iranian territory? Better question, who do you think is the bad guy in this conflict? You are pathetic.

    • SB Walt

Haha Iran couldn't do it….simply because of men like Chief Kyle

John, you're in the wrong forum bud. The people here are the soldiers, the ones with boots on the ground the ones who do the work. I think you'd fit in better with those politicians that sit there in their ivory towers, and make decisions and that's not up to us. Soldiers do what they're trained to do and that's protect and win. So go play your politics; this guys a hero.

  • greg

It would be much better if he had served in a war worth fighting in. This whole Iraq conflict is a joke. Every US Servicemen that has died, died for a phony cause. The vast majority of people this guy killed, were not even worth killing. I am 100% sure of it. Shit, we had no business invading them in the 1st place.

I am a former SNIPER AND I THINK Chris Kyle is a fake. I'm not saying that he didn't get a lot of kills. I'm saying he should not make himself out to be something that he is not. He got a lot of facts wrong about Carlos Hathcock. He sais Carlos was in Vietnam for over 3 tours that is not correct. Carlos did one full tour and a partial tour. Chis is trying to compare himself to carlos and its not even close. Carlos was in the jungle and Chris was in a desert and cities. Huge difference. He Chris lied about how many confirmed kills he got. Which brings me to my next point Carlos had more than 300 unconfirmed kills also. Look at Chuck Mawhinney another real badass. He has 103 confirmed kills allso in in the jungle. If you are a true badass sniper you don't write a book about yourself other people write books about you. It sounds to me like Chris was braging and trying to make a name for himself so his buisness would pick up.

How could anyone speak ill of someone that served his or her country and placed themselves in harms way. Whether you agree with the war or not, anyone who serves their country laying their life on the line deserves our respect and appreciation for their service. And to critics – there are plenty of other countries you can move to if you can’t be loyal to this one. Good riddance!!

  • JAM

    RIP Chris Kyle.

    True American Hero.
