Ah 419….I was stuck at sea with her on HMCS Saint John's!

  • Jim Turgeon

Doesn't mention that it takes 20 hours maintainance for each hour in the air

    • Longphee979

Not sure where that stat comes from but it simply isn't true. It may be for other Sea King fleets, but not ours!

  • dahenkilla

I could further explain what Jim Turgeon commented about but it might give away a few "trade" secrets about maintenance in the CF and Personnel Manning on bases… 20 is not the correct #, it's actually higher :-P, However, there are very few Medium to Heavy Lift Helicopters that do not require 20 hrs maint per hour of flight. It's the nature of the beast. When you consider what these A/C have to go through, landing on a rolling ship in some pretty shitty sea states etc… It's no surprise that they do require a little more maintenance.

And Kris, When you think about all the time that AVS techs spend gathered around a lone A/C at the other end of the hanger for most of the night, its little wonder where those #'s come from…
