#29 I love dogs. Mans best friend, for sure.

    • usmc_chiver

Lock your dog and your wife in your trunk for a week. At the end of the week let them out – your wife will jump out yelling and screaming at you; your dog will wag his tail, lick you, and want to play. Who's your best friend now?

      • Mark Loehrer

#*$*# that, I'd of eaten the dog by then.

        • Parallendicular

A dog will love anybody until they try to hurt them. If you try to eat a dog, they will probably end up eating you instead.

    • dave

great pic and it would be even better with text that made sense

    • vmx12

Text should read: "This is the longest walk ever…"

    • NothingToSeeHere

This is, in general a great post. Many great messages.

However, the caption on this pic pisses me off.

No doubt, the photo is touching, and yes love is most important. But don't belittle the struggles of the homeless with "All you need is love" bullshit.

There are plenty of people in need out there. And "hug from a dog" is pretty low on their list of needs…

      • Desi

You just don't understand. Society turned it's back on that man. That dog never will.

        • Steve

Bullshit. This is something i have a problem with. In NYC you see this all the time the homeless holding malnourished dogs because they get more money i dont respect it at all. It not the dogs fault… and that we as a society have turned our backs to these people? Have you every done any research on the homeless or are you just from an area of the country where they dont have them? There are more then enough programs for people in these situations to get off the street and into a shelter but they need to make the the first step and getting them to do thats proves to be the hardest part of the job for many who work in that field. Dont blame society for every individuals personal problem most the people on the street either have mental deseases which is truly heartbreaking or did to themselveses

          • Aran

Not every down on their luck person with an animal is using that animal to try to manipulate people into giving them more money. Some only have one thing in their life that cares about them, and it may be a dog. I know i love the shit out of my dog and if i was on the streets id want his drooling ass right next to me.

            • bandeti

If I could, I would send money and/or 'stuff' to help that man and his dog right now.

This is America. No one should live like this in this country. Not everyone's condition is their own direct fault.

              Haters, you contribute NOTHING!

    • who cares

Love is definitely better, but money is still pretty important. See how well you live off of only "love" (hint, you don't)

    • Seth Whaley

I was thinking chive should adopt a dog day to go with cat Saturday.

  • MarthaJeane

#4 & #6 – And people still claim Earth is the only place with life.. Which kind of makes me feel just like #5 to think about.

But seriously, awesome post Chive. I think I have a little something in my eye.

    • hark1985

I agree! Life is precious! we're all so small in this universe. I too have something in my eye.

    • KayakAggie

      Agreed MJ.

    • BloodScrubber

It takes a big person to realize, just how small we are. 😐

    • Terwilliger

I think when I first saw number six they said every dot not just the smudges were galaxys except think six but the photo was uncropped and had in it one that was definetly a star. The pic was supposed to be of the darkest part of the sky they could find. There has to be life out there somewhere even if it's to far away to ever prove it. All of those galaxys with billions or more stars each…..

  • Shannon Coverdale

    #23 Very touching

    • Owen Smithers

Yup. teared up on this for sure!

      • AlbusQ

That makes two of us. Damn you Mac. And thank you Mac.

    • slacker

yeah….this one got me right in the chest……….thought I was tougher than this. But if this doesn't move me I might as well be dead.

    • Dan

just a speck of dust in my eye.. i swear.

      • MarauderV8

I was doing pretty good til that one. Damn onions.

    • Curtis Beezley

god bless our troops and everyrhing about them.

    • GomerPyle

    • Franklin1138

This awesome photo reminds me of an experience I had. With his job, my dad had had to lock down his vacation way in advance, so my parents were going to be out of the country when my Guard unit shipped out overseas. Imagine my surprise when they drove 7 hours just to see me off.

When you're a parent, you'll do anything for your kids. If you won't, you probably shouldn't be a parent.

    • weaksauce

I wish we didn't send these heroes to useless wars 😦 Im so proud of them for volunteering to defend us, and i'm so embarrassed our politicians use them to do their dirty work.

    • joe

Yeah that one fukt me up. So nice.

    • ConstableDubs

This one got me too. Back when I was in the Army I joined due to the chaos in my house and my parents didn't agree with it. I didn't have anyone waiting for me when I got back.

  • thaomeow

This post restores my faith in humanity. Very beautiful, Chive.

    • mikeyyyyyyyy

      nicely said

    • Master_Rahl

took the words right out of my mouth. #24 Really sums it up. Religion is something that has been a reason for war for thousands of years, but here are 2 groups respecting each other (and one protecting the other). That's powerful.

  • KCJake

    #7 Socialist pig!

    • stonewall_79

    • Owen Smithers

No, if this young millionaire decided to do this himself with money he earned legally and ethically, then great! When we're forced to give that it becomes a problem. It destroys liberty and quashes the incentive to succeed. It is a form of slavery when the fruits of our labor are confiscated against our will.

      • KCJake

        Yeah, it's a joke.

        • Owen Smithers

          Yeah, I know. But a lot don't get it….

          • Urethra Franklin

Pretty Sure "Abbey Holloway" is a little girl. If people made a habit of "Giving" there would be no need for taking and re-distributing.

            • Owen Smithers

Oops! Didn't read the name. Of course, you never know any more… And you're right about habit. Let's raise our kids with that virtue. And the understanding of the difference between giving freely, and a gov't taking.

            • Martin

Wrong. Government will always find an excuse to take. And control. They just use the poor as a reason to do it because it's easy to make people look bad when they are against helping the poor.

      • Norbert Zalog

Yeah you're right, in the US we are all slaves… if we actually paid towards things we cared about with our tax money, and the money was not just spent frivolously without even looking for low prices or caring about quality we'd probably bet only giving about a tenth of the amount we actually give.

      • Mark Loehrer

Because being kind and empathetic towards others who are born into means, below the point at which they can reach success–that's crazy, that's terrible…yep….

        • Owen Smithers

It's great to be kind and feel that empathy. But remember that empathy alone doesn't pay the bills.

          • Awesome

            Dumb Owen Smithers is dumb

            • Owen Smithers

Yeeeeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there.

      • IrishWolfhound

You do realise that the most peaceful and prosperous nations on Earth are socialist?

        • Terwilliger

They're peaceful because the squeaky wheels got the nass grave. As far as prosperous goes, socialism plus human nature prevents that.

          • bigdeal

            lol fucking exactly Terwilliger

      • Mark

No one is stealing any money from you, it's called tax. The quality of life for your country is paramount to how much tax you pay. You might well hate or dislike socialism but look at countries such as Belgium, Denmark and Norway. They pay heavier taxes than any other country in the world and yet look at the quality of life for their people. A great standard of living is enjoyed by the vast majority rather than the very few.

        • simtafa

Because people are not selfish over there.

    • Nick

So I take it that you have no idea what Socialism is?

      • JAFitC

So I take it you are unable to distinguish between socialism (an economic system enforced by government) and private charity?

        • @McBeastie666

so i take it nobody can spot a joke.

          • Frank

So I take it that most people these days start their sentences with "So I take it."

            • thedude325

So I take it you're making light of the situation

              • Owen Smithers

                So it would seem.

              • Seth Whaley

So I take it a joke it not to be taken lightly?

        • Joey

Marxist theorize it as the transitional phase from capitalism to communism

    • jim

2 Chicks at the same time…….

      • Jen

        • Blake Rice

More then likely this is a child regurgitating someone else beliefs. Really, it's not that beautiful. And know one is forcing you to read these post.

          • Blake Rice

      • Owen Smithers

        Not all chicks.

  • Dukes

Damn guys……had water in my eyes the whole time……touching post……..

    • Goldy

      Shoot now!!!

  • jack of all trades

    #8 #23 amazing. Tearing up a bit

    • jack of all trades

unless he is taking the sandals from the kid. Then that's no bueno.

      • jack of all trades

commenting on own comment is no bueno!

        • jack of all trades

          I'm silly.

    • Critic

Can I please get the story behind the sandals?
It is a very powerful photo

      • Uncertainty

I think he was a tourist and gave his sandals to the homeless kid on the street. Not sure, I've seen the photo before and I think that was the story.

    • Daniel

I think it takes away he posed for a pic.. he wants recognition, after he probably put them back on walked away and said let me see that pic hunny lol

    • Truth

That going to be a long hot walk on the sidewalk back to the resort

    • BOOM!

haha your name is JACK OFF!

    • Aoi

#8 It's a cool pic, but psicologically that is not an act of kindness, I think that man just saw a reflection and was embarassed, his ego went up "dont give the fish, teach how to fish"

There are a lot of people who litterally dont know it's possible to overcome fear, sadness and ignorance. They really dont know that is possible to be happy, i've seen this so many times.

      • Token Black Chiver

        #1 psychologically
#2 Yes it is an act of kindness
#3 Even if it is, pity or a reflection of self which it would not be, the fact is that he did something about it. He didn't go back to his hotel and think about what he could have done. He acted…. Actions are all that really counts

    • luke

good thing they wore the same size shoes

  • bob

ya god damn sons of bitches…got me all, god-damnit… i gotta go out and check something in the tool shed.

    • Josh Hollis

gotta go kick start something just to make sure I'm still a man.

      • Owen Smithers

Man cards will not be docked for compassion. You're good, man.

        • simtafa

I had to go out and throw some rocks to feel like a man again.

  • AssClown

  • Paul

    • Dukes

      i agree……..

  • Ahall005

This is the best kind of post. I feel sad and happy all at once. Thank you! ❤
    #1 #36

    • thom

#1, what an idiot for placing that small of a kid in a potentially dangerous situation like that. What to endanger him.

      • realist

Police state coming to a city near you.

      • Reason

I hate pictures like these that make the police seem like the bad guys, they're just trying to keep the peace, it's the protestors who get violent first. Protest all you want just be like Gandhi or Chavez.

    • bjvl

So where'd this happen, anyway? I don't recognize the riot gear.

      • one

Bucharest, Romania, in January this year.. the actual fact is that the police really were the bad guys, acting on political orders.. that picture was after the spirits calmed down a bit.

    • Will

I cant see what it is, some one help

    • RonC

          KPC44: Not well read.

  • jack of all trades

#32 I wish that were true, but even without money, whoever has the most "stuff" wins…sad, really.

    • (A)

who has the more "stuff" wins??? really,

      • bjvl

The guy who had the most stuff just died.

Follow me to the estate sale.

    • therealguy

When you're dead and rotting into dust, none of it matters.

      • bob

        but until then…

    • Caliso

Why don't you go occupy something!!Maybe these's nuts!! Oh poor me I have no money

    • Luke Groundrunner

The one who dies OWING the most wins (how they gonna get it from a dead person??)

  • Owen Smithers

I disagree. Money is simply a tool we use because carrying around goats and bags of beans is too inconvenient. And if we all quit creating those things of value to ourselves and others, we'd all be poor and destitute.

    • KeepCalmDriveOn

Seeking monetary gain is what makes people rich or poor. If there was no money (or any other type of currency) and humans looked for enlightenment and bettering ourselves as a species, "poor" and "rich" by today's standards wouldn't exist anymore.

      • Owen Smithers

I think that humans need to address their base needs first like food, shelter, security, and then can focus on enlightenment and bettering. Gaining monetarily helps satisfy those base needs. It's not a bad thing, just part of the journey. As long as it's not the destination….

    • David Campbell

      Thank you! Sappy platitude..

    • (A)

money is far more than a tool. "carrying around goats and bags of beans is too inconvenient" that is just what is tought in MacroEcon courses as the prima "barter economy". A community could set up a "Gift" economy as an alternative. But that would require an ideological drive to abolish capitalism

      • Owen Smithers

And it would require a disregard for human nature. That's a tough one to overcome without tyranny.

      • benbobbins

Incidentally, capitalism is what gives nearly all of us jobs. Those who are quick to jump on the anti-capitalistic bandwagon are only aiming for some small-term revenge on those who are richer than them. Your type of gift system would work, but only if no one in the gift system ever intends to accumulate more than they have. That, beyond any other reason, makes your gift community an impossible idealization. We naturally want more than we have. Every one of us. It is simply our drive and skills that determine who is successful and who is still poor.

    • (A)

I still agree with you, to disagree with the sign. I dont feel like Bill Gates is a rich man or that my friends in a village with 2 pairs of shoes are poor. unless your monetary wealth, i dont view it that way

      • Owen Smithers

I would agree with that. Your checkbook balance isn't a true measure of your wealth. I just don't think money is a bad thing.

    • tedstevens

We have penicillin because a man wanted to be rich, we have cellphones because a man wanted to be rich, we have computers because a man wanted to be rich, cars, airplanes, ovens, radios, iPhones, television, air conditioning, etc., because men wanted to be rich. I guess you all would be content with dirt.

    • renzomatic

      boys cant read english

  • gungagaloonga

    great ending #36

  • KeepCalmDriveOn

#14 Mr. Rogers knew what was important, teaching kids. Much more important than money.

    • dweber77

Makes me proud to be a fellow Pittsburgher. Mr. Rogers was the man.

    • Franklin1138

I have the utmost respect for that man. I hope I get to meet him in the afterlife.

    • Captainbringdown

He also liked to touch the children he taught. True story.

    • Der Freischütz

I really wish that Mr Rogers and Taylor Mali could have worked together a bit. They both live the teaching ideal…for the kids, and no need for anything else.

      – I know that this isn't him directed towards the kids themselves…but powerful nonetheless.

  • Forest

#1 #36 From beginning to end, a powerful story well told. Good job, Chive

I bet you are really dumb.

      • Steve-o

haha why does he have to be mormon? because hes from salt lake? what are you retarded? i thought the chive, and this post in particular was about accepting people for who they are… and even if he is, why you gotta belittle his beliefs and be a prick about it? you dont want to be apart of this community that is meant to build people up and bring them together then kindly go fuck yourself good sir. keep calm and chive on.

Really "GOUTES"? Sorry douchebag, not of the Mormon faith. Way to make baseless assumptions based solely off my handle. How difficult is it for you to see the awesome images on this site when your head is lodged firmly up your ass? You're pretty good at typing, that fact being considered. KCCO.
