Many of you see some of the drama and un-Chiveworthy content (smut) that has flared up in some Facebook groups. Although these groups are a minority, imagine that happening just a couple times a week across multiple chapters. Those issues get kicked up to Chive Nation, a whopping 4 employees including myself. It quickly becomes a death by a thousand cuts if that makes sense. Why should we have to deal with drama in groups that use the name of the company I created which is built on positivity and goodwill? I shouldn’t and I won’t stand for it.
I’m dissolving and will no longer recognize any Chive Chapters and their Facebook groups who have no city, state, or regional affiliation. (what the hell is ‘Chivers that Vape’ btw?) If you’re in these floating rogue chapters free to join other groups that fit your lifestyles, I’m not stopping you, just don’t use the name I worked so hard for. And it doesn’t mean you’re still not a Chiver.
This whole Chive thing, It’s mine and my brothers’ good name and, frankly, our trademark. I’ve always said theCHIVE belongs to the misfits and underdogs, but not the subversive. There’s a difference.
theCHIVE is the last kind refuge on the internet. As Facebook makes their move to control all content consumption on the internet, we stand alone now in the comedy space. Still privately held, all decisions made at this company might still be made on a bar napkin but the decisions are not announced without thoughtful contemplation. But I have to say, this was an easy one, and a long time coming.
