The other day I was watching something on tv and I heard someone use the term “give me the 411,” as in, give me the info. Yeah, it was some old 90’s thing. That got me thinking; if 911 is for emergencies, and 411 is technically information/directory assistance, are there any other 3-digit numbers we can call, that do some shit? The answer, is yes.
Called the North American Numbering Plan or NANP/N11 codes, there is a list of 8, 3-digit codes that are abbreviated numbers to get you in touch with specific services in your city. As 1/001 is generally accepted to be the long distance code in North America, there is no 111 number in the N11 codes list, in case you’re wondering.
So there you go. You learned something today.
