Last week, we introduced you to Maverick, a super special doggo who’s found his way from the brink, to just keep on bring joy to his family and his community. After we posted that gallery, we got some amazing comments (which you can check out HERE!), including an amazing one from his dad Joey, that we figured we’d check in with Maverick and his gang to see how things are going.
I’ve got to tell you, Chivers are amazing! The outpouring of comments that were written and directed to Joey and Maverick are absolutely heartwarming, and it makes all of us in the office feel honoured to be able to tell this story.
This is why we do what we do and why we have the greatest fan community in the world.
As for Joey and Mav, they’re touched by the attention, support and love that they’ve gotten from their home community of Deland, Florida and the world.
There’s just not enough words to convey their gratitude, as they’re certain that it was these good vibes that helped Maverick get to where he his now.
Since the original post, Maverick’s journey has only gotten a little easier with the community pitching in to help, donating an umbrella for Maverick’s wagon and helping install ramps around their house to help him get in and out.
Joey’s been keeping everyone informed with pictures and updates on Maverick’s Facebook.
Not to mention the thousands of cards and toys that have come his way. I don’t think I’ve seen dog so happy!
Meanwhile, people all over the globe are reaching out to Joey and Maxwell, to share how much of an inspiration he’s been and to offer their support.
As for Maverick, things were touch and go for a while. As with most cancer patients, your days vary from good ones, to really rough ones, and lately, Maverick’s been having a tough go. Late last week, he was taken for a CT scan which showed the best news possible.
There’s no evidence of cancer in his awesome body!! How great is that? On the downside though, they can’t figure out why his back legs aren’t working, but while they’re sorting that out, Maverick’s kicking cancer’s ass.
Of course, he still needs to complete his chemo regimen, but to make things easier on him, he dresses up like the superhero that he is.
Joey also shared this picture of Maverick getting pampered at the spa. While he looks down, he assures Maverick’s fans that this is just him being super relaxed and enjoying the treatments. For those of you that have doggos, you know how much they love a good blow dry.
Joey’s also got Maverick set up with a regimen of physiotherapy, massage therapy and acupuncture to help him build up strength in this legs and get back to walking.
Until then, Maverick’s still using a borrowed wheelchair that’s slightly too big for him, but with the gofundme page they’ve got going on, they’ve ordered just the right size for him.
But whether or not he’s feeling up or down, chilling in his wheelchair or on the wagon, Maverick’s not giving up the fight. He’s still rolling around the neighbourhood and even attended a Halloween party.
Treating that balloon like the big C; taking it down with ease!
And maybe the next morning he had some halloween party regrets, but who doesn’t? What’s the point of having a clean bill of health, if you don’t celebrate?
He’s one grateful little pupper and he couldn’t have done it without everyone rooting for him.
