If you think people aren’t judging you the moment they meet you, you’re wrong. Whether you’re on a date or awkwardly talking to someone over a glass of punch at a party, the other person is already determining how likely you are to commit a crime, and how much money you have… and unfortunately our faces usually give us away whether we want them to or not. Here are few things people can figure out about us based on how we look.
If you’re attractive, people think you’ve got a lot more going for you as well
The phenomenon is called “the halo effect,” and it means that people tend to assume that good-looking people are also intelligent and more prone to commitment. University of Texas psychologist Daniel Hamermesh studies beauty in the workplace and found that this also means that good-looking people tend to get paid more.
Plus, a study of male undergrads asked participants to evaluate an essay. They were more lenient on the work when they were shown a photo of an attractive woman and told she was the author versus when they were shown a photo of an unattractive woman, or no photo at all.
