So instead of interrupting Officer Benitez’s breakfast, he decided to pay for it instead. He asked his mom, Amanda Cantin, to help him spell out a very special message for the receipt. It read:
“I want to be you when I grow up. Thank you for your service. — Noah Smiling.”
“It meant everything,” Officer Eddie Benitez expressed about the very kind gesture from Noah. “It meant that I’m supposed to wake up every morning and put on his uniform and go out there and do what I do. You know? It means that I need to keep trying to be a good example to all these young guys.”
He now keeps the note in the front pocket of his uniform. “I’ve got it right here, ’cause I’m gonna keep it as long as I can,” he said.
Hold on to your dream, Noah, and maybe one day kids will look up to you the same exact way.
