Do you like pickles? Do you like peanut butter? Do you like your foodstuffs put between two slices of bread?
Well, I’m going to shock you, but you may have a new favorite sandwich.
Or maybe not.
The New York Times (a paper, I hasten to add, that has more Pulitzer Prizes than any other in the world) recently published an article exalting the virtues of the pickle and peanut butter sandwich, an “unacknowledged American classic” in their words (If you are frowning like an emotionally disturbed Pit Bull Terrier right now, you aren’t alone).
The newspaper, which is over 150 years old and broke the infamous Pentagon Papers, describes the sandwich thusly:
“The vinegary snap of the pickles tempers the unctuousness of the peanut butter, and it’s an unusual pantry sandwich for when luncheon meats leave you cold.”
Naturally, Twitter had plenty of opinions about this rather ‘unique’ sandwich filling, ranging from horrified to mortified.
