2015’s Creed was one of the biggest surprises to me in recent film. Rocky Balboa redeemed the franchise and ended on a fitting note, so having a relatively unknown director come in to continue the story with Apollo Creed’s illegitimate son was something I’d easily bet against. Turns out it was a near-perfect movie that should be the text-book example of how to continue a franchise for a new generation.
In Creed II, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) helps Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) defend his World Heavyweight Champion title against Victor Drago, son of the man who killed his father in the ring 30 years ago, Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Tessa Thompson also returns, along side a couple familiar faces from previous films.
