With over 100 films hitting theatres every year, it’s understandable that some would do better than others, and not every film would get the same amount of dollars. I mean, there’s only so many movies a person can see in a year. So, the stakes are pretty high to make sure that you get your movie positioned just right, and get those box office dollars.
But, it’s not easy. On top of the actual production budget, studios need to account for marketing, exhibition fees and other costs, which actually end up making a movie cost almost double what they originally planned. So for a film to be a success, it generally needs to earn 2.5x-3x it’s “budget” back. That seldom ever happens, and shit hits the fan.
