Here at Chive Charities, we hold our weekly team meetings on Monday afternoons. These aren’t the “pull your hair out,” boring TPS report meetings you are thinking of. ‘A rollercoaster of emotion’ is really the only way to describe it.
Our small crew, which only recently grew from 3 to 5 members, sits in the conference room. Angie Cone, Chive Charities’ Program Director, goes over the future potential recipients one by one. She outlines the tough, and in many cases, tragic circumstances that have left families in desperate situations, without anywhere else to turn. Many have been overlooked by other charities or passed over by insurance companies for essential quality-of-life enhancing items. Most feel alone and misunderstood, without a community to lean on for support. They are the underdogs.
By the time Angie finishes, the room has magically become a little dusty and you start to hear random sniffles.
Next, Caitlin St. Pierre, our amazing copywriter, shows us the draft story for the recipient we’re helping that week. We read through the story and see how Chive Nation’s donations to the Chive Fund have changed our recipients’ lives. By this time, water is miraculously pooling on most of our eyelids.
Finally, Angie and Caitlin review all the amazing updates from our recipients. Once Chive Charities helps a recipient we don’t just forget about them. They become a part of our family. We owe it to Chive Nation to give you updates on not just how your donations made an impact during a campaign, but also how you’ve changed lives a month, 6 months, 2 years down the road.
These days, those updates are becoming more numerous and tend to take the majority of our meetings. It’s a testament to this crazy community of misfits and the impact they are making on the world to make it truly 10% happier. When Angie and Caitlin have finished, pools of moisture caused by sadness for the misfortune of others have boiled over and turned to tears of happiness.
