Understanding why theCHIVE backs our law enforcement community:
Before you see what a hot mess I was, I think it’s important to provide some background on what’s happening here and why.
My brother and I decided long ago to be vocal supporters of law enforcement. Our cousin Dave is an exemplary cop back home in Indiana. When you support a cause, you don’t get to pick and choose where and when you show it. You must be steadfast, especially when it matters. And it matters most now.
On the ride to San Marcos, I got to pick the officers’ brains for a while. Particularly regarding the tense climate in America right now. Scott and Elexar told me:
“The reception from the public at large has been very supportive. People offer to buy our lunches and dinners and stop to say a kind word. But big companies won’t speak up, they’re too scared. Except for one, theCHIVE. Certainly it would help to present a united front, but you guys step forward alone so much. Hell, you’re even jumping out of a plane to support us; theCHIVE has been the most vocal.”
I asked if the worst was behind us?
All three shook their heads, “We used to see a threat (to the police department) every few weeks. Now, we’re briefed almost daily on inbound threats. We know it’s coming to Houston and this certainly has the potential to get worse before it gets better.”
