Some people suggest greasy foods. Some say coffee…a lot of coffee…ALL THE COFFEE. But science disagrees. Here’s the long and short of it; there is no hangover cure. There’s being hungover, and then the alternative: Not being hungover.
According to Niket Sonpal, MD doctor of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine, hangovers are caused by toxic biproducts called congeners. These congeners develop during the fermentation process, and when drinking, the human body is forced to metabolize the alcohol and the congeners. Sonpal also references a 2010 study which proved that bourbon and other dark alcohols have higher congeners. Drinking those types of alcohol ended in worse hangovers.
